Clearly not an Altruist

Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to [the] poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

- Matthew 19, 21

“If you wish to be perfect…” we are always living our lives to be better people, to be more perfect in our excellency- VERY Aristotelian!

We have the potency of perfection through our own actions, our actions leading then not to potentiality but actuality. Our actual perfection comes from our potent desire to act with excellency.

The integrity of value held in the sale of selling is fully respected by Jesus, but the love shared unto another is held as an even greater value.

Love Thyself

The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

- Matthew 22, 39

Let the love of thyself guide the love for others, for it is thyself who is acting with love.

The Highest Value of Love

I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another.

- John 13, 34

Other Mentions

Mark 10: 21 Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said to him, “You are lacking in one thing. Go, sell what you have, and give to [the] poor and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.” 22 At that statement his face fell, and he went away sad, for he had many possessions.

Luke 12: 33 Sell your belongings and give alms. Provide money bags for yourselves that do not wear out, an inexhaustible treasure in heaven that no thief can reach nor moth destroy.

Luke 18: 22 l When Jesus heard this he said to him, “There is still one thing left for you: sell all that you have and distribute it to the poor, and you will have a treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

“Then you are a king?”

‘Well, you tell me.’

So Pilate said to him, “Then you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say I am a king. For this I was born and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.”

Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” When he had said this, he again went out to the Jews and said to them, “I find no guilt in him.”

- John 18, 37 & 38

So Socratic. It’s on them. When Jesus is questioned, Jesus always puts it back on them.

37 You tell me… Am I a king? Read 38 too!!

38 You tell me… What is the truth? Then in referrencing 37- You are wanting to know the truth, are you listening to my voice?

Did you notice- There was no need for Jesus to say a word in 38 in order for Pilate to make his decision? Not a word from Jesus.

St Joseph loses Jesus.

Each year his parents went to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover, and when he was twelve years old, they went up according to festival custom. After they had completed its days, as they were returning, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, but his parents did not know it.

Thinking that he was in the caravan, they journeyed for a day and looked for him among their relatives and acquaintances, but not finding him, they returned to Jerusalem to look for him.

After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions, and all who heard him were astounded at his understanding and his answers. When his parents saw him, they were astonished,

and his mother said to him, “Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been looking for you with great anxiety.”

Luke 2, 41 through 49

And Jesus is great…

And he said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?”

Yeah why worry Mary, your son was only gone for three days? ;)

Can you imagine what was going through St. Joseph’s mind?

“Mary… just, stay, put. Please just stay put. Real great I just lost God himself. That’s all I need is to lose The Mother of God too.”

Mary & Jesus for sure both knew The Father’s House very very well. That wonderful little Mary was always looking up to God to know The Father’s wishes for His Son, and hers. She kept these things in her heart…

and his mother kept all these things in her heart. 51

This is all these guys did; they were reading and studying Mosaic Law when Jesus enters.

He stood up to read and was handed a scroll of the prophet Isaiah. He unrolled the scroll and found the passage where it was written:

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.”

Rolling up the scroll, he handed it back to the attendant and sat down, and the eyes of all in the synagogue looked intently at him.

On the third day there was a wedding in Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding. When the wine ran short, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” (And) Jesus said to her, “Woman, how does your concern affect me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servers, “Do whatever he tells you.”

Now there were six stone water jars there for Jewish ceremonial washings, each holding twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus told them, “Fill the jars with water.” So they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, “Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter.” So they took it. And when the headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine, without knowing where it came from (although the servers who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter called the bridegroom and said to him, “Everyone serves good wine first, and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one; but you have kept the good wine until now.”
John 2, 1 through 10

Awesome. Jesus with his Mother. Did you notice… Mary told them to get ready even after the fact that Jesus had told her that now wasn’t the time. Mary still knew what was coming from her son.

‘Okay Mom, here You go.’ And he did, 180 gallons.

In this very instance one can experience the true power of The Twins Hearts- The Hearts of Mary and Jesus. A person can read this to both see and feel that the two were truly sent to change this world in every possible way.

Mary knows her children very very well; she knows about all their needs, she’s a wonderful Mother. Mary knew they needed more wine and so naturally she asks of God their Father what is only in their best interest. They were celebrating Holy Matrimony. Jesus heard her and so obeyed his Mother.

Whenever a child of God is in need, turning to Mary their Mother is always a wonderful choice.

Then war broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels battled against the dragon. The dragon and its angels fought back, but they did not prevail and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. The huge dragon, the ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, who deceived the whole world, was thrown down to earth, and its angels were thrown down with it. Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say:
“Now have salvation and power come, and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Anointed. For the accuser of our brothers is cast out, who accuses them before our God day and night. They conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; love for life did not deter them from death. Therefore, rejoice, you heavens, and you who dwell in them. But woe to you, earth and sea, for the Devil has come down to you in great fury, for he knows he has but a short time.”
Revelation 12, 7 through 12

I can’t wait. And it is.. it’s already here, alive and well. BUT the final battle is coming; and so, as soldiers in Christ, we really need to give it 110% during our “basic training,” here on Earth. Wherever and whenever, we need to continue on with living out the Gospel, because in this way we truly are going after satan and putting a stop to his ways. People who love to fight and argue are happy little fellows just chomping on the bit saying let me at’m, haha.

We are the law, scholars. We being those who hear Jesus clearly every single day, and wish nothing more than to follow him in all of his ways through the love we have for him. This is why having a strong devotion to The Sacred Heart is so powerful to me. Jesus is all the reason we will ever need to want to know more about God’s Written Law. The Written Law is all about Jesus, the one who hears us and sets free as captives, continually asking of us then to follow him. And trying is enough for Jesus; he wants us to do our best and then not to worry. We can’t lose.

Nevertheless, do not rejoice because the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice because your names are written in heaven.” At that very moment he rejoiced (in) the holy Spirit and said, “I give you praise, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will.

We really are one with Him and The Father through the Holy Spirit. It makes The Father the very happiest when he sees our closeness to Jesus, His Own Most Beloved Son. Each word of praise we speak of Jesus is our acknowledgment of all greatness we see in Jesus, and also in what we see in our Creator, God the Father.

One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, Of all the commandments, which is the most important? The most important one, answered Jesus, is this: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these. Well said, teacher, the man replied. You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him.

And as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a sizable crowd, Bartimaeus, a blind man, the son of Timaeus, sat by the roadside begging. On hearing that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, son of David, have pity on me.” And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he kept calling out all the more, “Son of David, have pity on me.” Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” So they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take courage; get up, he is calling you.” He threw aside his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus. Jesus said to him in reply, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man replied to him, “Master, I want to see.” Jesus told him, “Go your way; your faith has saved you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed him on the way.

Mark 10: 46 through 52

He knew it was Jesus, and he knew Jesus had the power to change absolutely anything of any magnitude in this world. And so he stayed persistent, calling for Jesus- “Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me”.

The blind man knew what he wanted from God- he wanted to see. But more importantly the man knew that it was only Jesus who could grant him sight. Part of seeing is knowing that you see. I think this is one of Jesus’ Greatest Messages.

It’s like with small children, they call and they call and they call because they know that their Mama can bring them what they need, including an understanding of this world. And for this the child wants to know their mother’s always close by, and as the child progresses in their development the mother will teach them to know ahead of time what it is they need or want in order to ask with their truest intent.

Like our Mothers do, Jesus is very much so- teaching us how to reason.

Jesus asks all who are listening- why do you wish to see? Jesus not only gives sight but also the knowledge that one sees.
